Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

This fragment lists cult images and paraphernalia as well as offering and suppliers in a fragmentary context. Of interest is the mention of a kippa-structure made by a “man of the Storm god,” on top of which a cult image of the Storm god is placed (obv. 11′-12′). Traces of a colophon are extant at the end of the reverse.

obv. 5′: Note the rare spelling DUGḫar-ši-iš (pl.).

obv. 11′-12′: The passage is treated in Kümmel 1967: 73, where the attestations of the kippa-structure are presented and discussed. This term seems to denote a “shelter for divine icons, large enough for human entry, pitched at outdoors cult spots, combustible for ritual purposes” (HED K, 185); a relation to the DN Kippamula attested in KUB 38.12 is uncertain.
